Every now and then, some parody on YouTube makes my day. This parody of the old "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" song, called "Stick Magnetic Ribbons on Your SUV," did it for me today.
This afternoon, my friend and colleague Greg Elin said something really interesting to me: "Have you ever noticed there are no journalists on Star Trek?" (Sort of a variation on that old Richard Pryor joke about how there were almost no black people in science fiction shows).
It got us thinking, maybe in the future there won't be a need for journalists. Assuming that more and more of us will have the ability to access information and collaborate in pooling what we know, and as computing processing power and storage continues to grow, maybe the need for intermediaries like professional journalists (and other institutions that stand in the for the public) will fade away. Apparently Gene Roddenberry thought so.
